Birthright Citizenship…

Trump announced in an interview on Tuesday, October 29, 2018, that he will sign an executive order intended to end the practice of birthright citizenship.

Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) on the same day said that he will introduce legislation to end the “absurd policy of birthright citizenship”.

The proposed legislation to amend the 14th Amendment of the Constitution, which states that all persons “born or naturalized in the United States” are “citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside ” will not only require over two-thirds majorities in Congress, but also be ratified by three-quarters of the states.

Vice President Pence said “we all cherish” the 14th Amendment but “the Supreme Court of the United States has never ruled on whether or not the language of the 14th Amendment subject to the jurisdiction thereof applies specifically to people who are in the country illegally”.

Most countries in the Western Hemisphere, including Mexico and Canada, have some form of birthright citizenship.

U.S. Defense Dept.

The U.S. Defense Department is sending 5,200 armed active duty troops to the southern border to provide “mission enhancing capabilities”.

A total of 800 soldiers are already en route on Monday (October 29, 2018) and the remainder of the troops would be at the southwest border by the end of the week.

The deployed troops will join the more than 2,000 members of the National Guard already providing assistance at the border now.

The DV-2020 program

Applicants for the DV–2020 DV program must submit entries electronically at dvlottery.state.gov between noon, Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT–4), Wednesday, October 3, 2018, and noon, Eastern Standard Time (EST) (GMT–5), Tuesday, November 6, 2018.

Only one entry per person will be allowed and no late entries or paper entries will be accepted during the registration period. Individuals with more than one entry will be disqualified. Incomplete entries will not be accepted.

Applicants can submit the Electronic Diversity Visa Entry Form (E–DV Entry Form or DS– 5501), online at dvlottery.state.gov.

There is no cost to register for the DV Program.

After submission of a complete entry, you will see a confirmation screen that contains your name and a unique confirmation number. Print this confirmation screen for your records. Without this information, you will not be able to access the online system that will inform you of the status of your entry. You also should retain access to the email account listed in the E–DV.

Starting May 7, 2019, you will be able to check the status of your entry by returning to dvlottery.state.gov, clicking on Entrant Status Check, and entering your unique confirmation number and personal information.

Entrant Status Check will be the sole means of informing you of your selection for DV– 2020, and instructions on how to proceed with your application for the immigrant visa.

Brett Kavanaugh

On his first day on the job on the Supreme Court, Brett Kavanaugh took a position in favor of a 1996 immigration law that allows the government to indefinitely detain immigrants who committed minor crimes at any point in time, including years or decades later, without bail hearings.

Neil Gorsuch, meanwhile, cautioned against government overreach.

A decision in the case is expected next June.

Great service experience! Mr. Vega is very knowledgeable and takes the time to explain in detail of whatever the immigration case is. He demonstrates that he cares and is not only after the money like other immigration attorneys. I am not a big fan of going by star ratings, but in this case I wanted to share that if you are in need of a good immigration attorney in Houston, TX he would be it!
